After losing their home following a devastating tragedy, a father and son are forced to move to an old family cabin. Neither reacts well to being thrown into this new world. The son’s attempts to relate to his father are complicated when two old friends arrive for a weekend of hunting. This trip into the forest will unearth not only buried feelings of guilt and betrayal, but also a tribe of Sasquatch that are determined to protect their land.

A word on the use of practical effects in “Valley of the Sasquatch”: Something of great importance to production companies The October People and Votiv Films was the
use of practical special effects in Valley of the Sasquatch. “Too often nowadays monsters will be made using CGI,” says Writer/Director John Portanova. “It may be faster and therefore cheaper to just shoot a plate and not have blood everywhere or a creature suit that requires particular lighting, but for my money I don’t think any computer effect done on a budget can beat a good old-fashioned man in a suit.

On Valley we made sure we had the budget set aside to create an awesome Bigfoot suit inspired by eyewitness accounts of the creature.” FX Supervisor Doug Hudson (How the Grinch Stole Christmas) designed the suit for the Sasquatch, which was portrayed by performer Connor Conrad, and also created the blood and gore needed for the film’s various death scenes.

Director Bio: John Portanova is an independent filmmaker based out of Seattle, WA. After working on numerous projects in the Seattle area, he formed the production company The October People alongside Jeremy Berg and Matt Medisch. The first feature film from The October People was the acclaimed psychological horror story “The Invoking”. The film, which he helped write and produce, had its world premiere at the 2013 Sun Valley Film Festival and was released on home video in the US and UK via Image Entertainment in early 2014.

Later in 2014, Portanova acted as a writer and producer on the sci-fi horror film “The Device”. Following a brief festival run, the film was released onto home video in December 2014. Soon after wrapping on “The Device”, Portanova stepped into the director’s chair for the first time with “Valley of the Sasquatch”, based on his script.
