2014 Horrible Imaginings Films: The Stomach

2014, United Kingdom, 15 mins

The stomach

Frank's had enough. A spirit medium whose unique and grotesque method of channeling the dead is putting his own life at risk, he wants out. But others, in this world and the next, have plans of their own. Part body-horror, part ghost-story, The Stomach is a unique tale of Supernatural Noir.

Directors Statement:

As in my previous short film ‘The Flea’, I wanted to tell an expansive story while only showing a fragment of it. I also wanted to embed a supernatural scenario into a totally believable, everyday world. I’ve always liked the contrast of the weird and supernatural with the down at heel and humdrum. And I wanted to tell a story driven by relationships, with a supernatural element that’s both wondrous and tragic.

As a writer and director of short films, Ben has been honing his ‘kitchen sink horror’ style for 10 years. His work has been screened at festivals around the world and praised for its fresh take on the genre, with DreadCentral.com describing his 2008 short ‘The Flea’ as “a better vampire story in 9 minutes than most films can squeeze into 90”.  With his production partner Dan Dixon and their company FUME FILMS, he is currently developing three horror features.
